People who make market days work
We are a small, hands-on team and we like people who can work with traders, handle busy event days and keep practical details on track. Some days are spent on site in Hatfield, other days mean loading equipment, checking stall layouts, answering maker queries or sorting event schedules for Pretoria and other areas. It is proper working, with early starts, long weekends and plenty of moving parts.
We hire for event operations, maker relations, workshop support, digital content, customer service, site coordination and admin support. Depending on the season, we also look for people who can help with market photography, food stall set-up advice, stall styling workshops and maker night planning. If you are calm under pressure and enjoy working with the public, you will fit in well.
Roles we often recruit for
Our team supports weekend markets in Hatfield, Brooklyn, Lynnwood, Menlyn and Centurion, plus nationwide pop-up events. When we bring people in, it is usually for practical roles that keep the markets running on time and the makers well supported.
- Market operations and site support
- Maker relations and trader onboarding
- Events coordination and runner support
- Workshop facilitation and training support
- Digital content, photography and social media
- Admin and customer enquiries
We also welcome strong generalists who can switch between planning and hands-on work without fuss.
What kind of experience helps
Experience in events, retail, hospitality, community projects, food markets or small business support is useful. We value people who understand customer service, can communicate clearly and know how to work with different personalities. A good attitude matters just as much as a formal qualification, and a can-do approach goes a long way.
Because our markets run outdoors and in shared venue spaces, practical thinking helps. You may need to deal with weather changes, municipal rules, traffic on event mornings or last minute stall issues. The work suits people who are organised, reliable and comfortable being on their feet.
What we look for on your CV
Please send a short CV that shows what you have done, where you have worked and what kind of roles you are looking for. If you have event photos, workshop examples, content samples or maker support experience, include those too. Keep it clear and easy to read, with your current contact details and suburb or town.
- Your name, phone number and email address
- A brief summary of your experience
- Previous roles and dates
- Relevant skills, tools or systems
- Any event, market or customer service experience
- References if you are comfortable sharing them
If you are applying for a workshop or maker-facing role, tell us which topics you have worked on, such as pricing, packaging for sales, first market prep or seasonal selling.
How to apply
Send your CV through our contact form with the subject line Careers and your name. In the body of the message, tell us which type of role interests you and where you are based. If you are applying for more than one area, say so clearly so we can match your application to the right team.
We read applications regularly and keep strong CVs on file for future openings. If your skills match a role we need, someone from the team will be in touch. If not, we may still keep your details for later market seasons or event programmes. Please only send documents you are happy to share.
Working life at Local Makers Market
Our work is rooted in local trade and community. One weekend you may be helping set up a Hatfield market, the next you could be supporting a maker night or a pop-up in another province. We care about good service, tidy presentation and helping small businesses trade in a proper, professional way.
It is a practical environment, with real deadlines and real people. If you like variety, enjoy being around creative traders and do not mind a bit of weekend work, this could suit you well. We are not looking for fuss, just steady people who can show up and do the job properly.
